Classic Context Menu on Windows 11: Steps and Tips to Know

Written by Windows 11 Field Guide Editorial Team · Updated

This page is a short, practical checklist for windows 11 context menu classic on Windows 11 (versions 24H2 and 25H2). It covers the steps that apply in most cases and points you to our in-depth guides. For the full picture, start with our safe Windows 11 tweaks.

Create a restore point first

Search Start for “Create a restore point”, select the system drive, make sure protection is on, and click Create. A restore point lets you undo system changes without touching your files.

Safe changes worth making

  • Trim startup apps in Settings > Apps > Startup.
  • Choose a power mode in Settings > System > Power & battery.
  • Turn off suggestions and tips in Settings > Personalization > Start and Settings > Privacy & security > General.
  • Reduce animations in Settings > Accessibility > Visual effects.
  • Turn on Storage Sense in Settings > System > Storage.

What we do not recommend

Registry cleaners, “debloat” scripts that remove system components, disabling Windows Update or Microsoft Defender, and copying registry edits from forums. These can break updates and security features, and the gains are usually too small to measure. Every tweak on this site uses settings Windows exposes in the Settings app.

This page is a short checklist and has not yet been expanded into a full guide. Steps follow current Windows 11 menus; if your screens differ, check your version with the winver command.
